Training and assessment is conducted by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. A comprehensive discussion of the training program, including subspecialty training pathways, is available in the Requirements for Physician Training handbook on the college website. A new version is available for trainees commencing from 2008 onwards.
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians also encompasses other training pathways within so-called "faculties" and "chapters" of the college. Faculties and Chapter have an important function as they provide additional pathways into Physician Specialities that are an alternative to completing the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Basic Training i.e. A Fellow of the College of GP's can become a Physician in Palliative Medicine through the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine.
