The Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA) is a Special Society of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and a sub-group of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia.
Medical oncology is a sub-specialty of internal medicine devoted to the investigation, diagnosis and management of people with cancer including preventative and palliative medicine. Medical oncologists are involved in clinical care, cancer research (including biology, therapeutics, epidemiology and clinical outcomes research), health education, ethics and clinical teaching.
Membership of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia comprises fully qualified medical oncologists and advanced trainees in medical oncology.
The vast majority of members of the Medical Oncology Group in Australia have had specific advanced training in medical oncology under the auspices of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Physicians obtaining membership through other paths have usually trained initially in another specialty and then subsequently in medical oncology, or undertaken equivalent training overseas. All full members of the Medical Oncology Group have therefore undertaken specialist training in the management of solid tumours, particularly the use of chemotherapy in the treatment of solid tumours.
