The safe hours issue has recently come into the spotlight following the recent coronor's finding on the death of 10 yearl Elsie Neville in 2002. Elsie died from an extradural haematoma acquired after a fall from a bunk bed. On her initial presentation to a Queensland Emergency Department she was seen by a doctor who had been on for 19 hours straight and was sent home. She represented once her parents found her unresponsive at home and later pronounced brain dead.
