Senior medical specialists at Melbourne's Alfred Hospital have joined doctors from country hospitals to warn that action would be considered from October unless the Brumby Government increased its 3.25 per cent annual pay rise offer.
The Australian Medical Association is demanding an 18 per cent pay rise over two years as compensation for rising inflation and past productivity gains.
Douglas Travis, the association's state president, rejected Mr Brumby's position that doctors would have to commit to further productivity improvements for the Government to lift its offer.
