Recent data suggests that New Zealand doctors are heading offshore in record numbers, possibly lured by higher incomes. As many as 25% of junior doctors have left New Zealand by the third postgraduate year.
According to the New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association, 10% of New Zealand medical graduates in 2007 went to Australia before even commencing work in New Zealand.
