An alternative medical career path

18.05.08

The rigors of internship, which can be an immensely stressful and testing time is often the first point at which people start questioning their career choice. The long hours and immense commitment required to complete medical training leaves many wishing they had chosen differently. Many doctors dissatisfied with their career are often too scared to give away their medical career given all the years of training they have undergone.

There are alternative medical career paths, including management consultancy or medical journalism for example, even investment banking. Medical Career Change is a great site which explores alternative non-clinical and clinical career options for doctors seeking to use their qualifications in non-conventional ways. Some of the clinical options featured include working as a cruise doctor or working in developing countries with charitable organisations such as Medicins Sans Frontieres. As we continue to expand our online content My Medical Career plans to include more information on viable alternative career paths in the future.
