  Hi there, This might not be a complete response to your question, but I had a placement with a GP who used to be a qualified surgeon. Essentially, he didn't like the lifestyle of a surgeon, so he signed up to GP training and is now a GP :) (not the physician answer that you're after, but close enough)...

  Hi t0t0_boy Howard brings up an important option. There really is no limit to what you can do as a GP and many GPs have areas of interest and get extra qualifications in those areas. Remuneration is increasing and not that you have to go rural, but your options increase if you do and being a rural generalist can be quite lucrative. Also, have you considered a discipline which has a bit of surgery and medicine (eg dermatology, O & G). Neurology and Neurosurgery are both massive areas and it is hard to imagine that someone would be competent and...
