  Hi Howie ^_^  I'm here now!  Nice post!  I totally agree with your comments on general practice.  We are in a huge shortage of GPs, so I think it's really important that we promote the benefits of becoming a GP.  Hence, I thought I'd compile a little list outling the beauty of general practice:- Be a diagnostician- Being an 'all-rounder'- No hospital bureaucracy- Be your own boss- Freedom - set your own work hours- Flexibility - practice anywhere in Australia- Community based- Prevent disease- Continuity of Care- Less formal doctor-patient relationships- High Income Potential - private, bulk bill, combine both!-...

  Hi t0t0_boy Howard brings up an important option. There really is no limit to what you can do as a GP and many GPs have areas of interest and get extra qualifications in those areas. Remuneration is increasing and not that you have to go rural, but your options increase if you do and being a rural generalist can be quite lucrative. Also, have you considered a discipline which has a bit of surgery and medicine (eg dermatology, O & G). Neurology and Neurosurgery are both massive areas and it is hard to imagine that someone would be competent and...
