A case study of Associate Professor Steve Trumble has been added to the My Medical Career case studies section.

It’s always interesting when you go back to your 10/20 year reunions and talk to your colleagues - friends from medical school who are doing other disciplines. A lot of them are no longer challenged because they’re doing the same thing every day. There’s nothing more challenging than having to think on your feet, and certainly in general practice you’re always being challenged to come up with some solution for a problem you’ve never seen before. And which maybe nobody’s ever seen before. Even if it’s a patient you know well you’re dealing with new issues all the time. The challenge of dealing with different things every day, that’s stimulating.

A great case study of Dr. Lydia Nunes has been added to the My Medical Career case studies section.

I came to Australia in 1994 after I completed my training in anaesthetics. I was offered a job in the hospital emergency department because of my anaesthetic training. I loved emergency department work . I loved the people contact. I became ambivalent about continuing anaesthetics. I decided to take up general practice as a specialty.

I was very impressed with the quality of care in australia. I had to sit all my exams again- the AMC and Fellowship exams. With hard work I was able to pass them first go. I secured a place in the training program for general practice and obstetrics and gynaecology. I chose general practice so I could support the wider community.

A fantastic case study of Dr. Katriona Ross has been added to the My Medical Career case studies section.

I got into medicine later in life. I had a career in a pathology laboratory prior to medicine. I did a science degree and was a rower at national level and trained for the Canadian Olympic team. I then did a masters degree in sport physiology and my mentor advsied me that I would make a good doctor and to consider medicine. My athletic career was over in my late twentys. At age twenty nine years I started my medical training course and graduated at thirty three years. After I graduated I wanted to be a generalist and not to close doors. I like the idea of staying general.

A great case study of Dr. Cosmin Florescu with a wonderful photograph has been added to the My Medical Career case studies section.

Make sure you consider everything you’re interested in before fully commiting to and one specialty. It’s important to consider what radiology actually involves before deciding that’s the only specialty for you. Check out the profile on this site and talk to some registrars and consultants about their careers. If you think you’d be happy doing what they’re doing then it’s probably the right specialty for you. Getting some research under your belt, particularly radiology research will probably increase your chances of getting a spot.
