Grace Florescu
Name: Grace Florescu
Career stage: Student
Location: Melbourne
Position: Student, first year, Monash University
Which University are you currently attending?
I am currently attending Monash University.
What areas of medicine have you enjoyed most so far in your studies?
Subjects that I enjoy are histology, pharmacology, pathology and clinical skills but as a first year student I haven’t yet experienced all that my course has to offer. Also, since I am pre-clinical it is difficult to say which specialty areas of medicine I prefer.
What factors are important to you in your choice of career/specialty?
What I find would be most important is my level of interest in that field of medicine otherwise I don’t think I’d be able to persist. Lifestyle factors such as working hours are also considerations for me.
What specialty have you chosen (or short listed) and why?
At the moment it is a bit early for me to decide as I am only in first year and have had limited exposure. However, I am doing a selective in anaesthesia which I am finding quite interesting as a career option.
What do you do outside of medicine to relax?
I enjoy spending time with friends most- we try to make our conversations non-medicine related. It is always nice to talk to non-med people as they help to get things into perspective!
